GCRGC will host a no cost women's only, beginners defensive handgun class starting on 8/13/2008, again on 8/20/2008 and last day on 8/27/2008 at our range at 7:00pm. each evening. This three day class will teach the the basics of defensive handgun shooting and tactics.
Each student needs to bring their handgun and a holster along with 200 rounds of ammo, water, hearing and eye protection. For more details contact Tom Neth at ESE Gunsmiths. Phone: 365-4272 9am. to 5pm.

NO MEN ALLOWED ON THE UPPER RANGE DURING THIS CLASS.

The pistol knock down targets on the upper range are left on the range for the convenience of pistol shooters. Recently, nine target plates had thirteen holes shot completely through the plates with either a .223 or .308 caliber rifle. The person or persons who did this do not have any respect for club property and worse yet they do not have any respect for the safety of pistol shooters. Steel with holes or other uneven surface will return lead or splatter jacketed material back to the shooter. The safety of the shooters should be the concern of all members who use the range.

These pistol knock down targets will be removed from the range on Monday, September 15th and will be returned on Saturday, November 1st. As in past years, these targets are removed from the range to prevent damage during the main hunting rifle sight in period.

Rodney Schroder and Kaen Easton will be putting on the Subgun/shotgun shoots. These will be the 4th Saturday of every month through October.
Shotguns: max barrel length 22" birdshot only
Subgun: any Full Auto firing pistol caliber
Signup 8:00am, safety meeting 8:30, match starts promptly 9:00am
60 target count, cost: $10

From Greg in the Muzzleloading group,

I want to share with you all, the link to the Traditional Muzzleloading Forum. I have found it to be an interesting, friendly and very informative resource for information about Muzzleloading. For example: I have been trying to develop a reliable paper revolver cartridge for use at monthly club trailwalks-the same idea as a woodswalk for those of you East of the Mississippi. I have been experimenting with cigarette paper cartridges with marginal results. I asked the Forum for advice and got the idea of trying teabags which are supposed to be stronger than cigarette paper and more combustible.

Try it, you will like it.

>>>>> NEWS NOTES <<<<<

>>>> This is going to be a busy year at the range, be sure and watch the calendar and if possible, check the website for last minute changes. Law enforcement groups from around the area sometimes request parts of the range for training at the last minute. We do not schedule any event that will close the lower ranges in September or the first two weeks of October, for any reason.

Keeping the Gate Closed and Locked

Club members do not always close and lock the gate when entering or leaving the range. Leaving the gate unlocked permits non-members to enter the range. Non-members then get locked in and either calls a member for the combination or a member has to go to the range and unlock the gate. Or the non-member takes the fence down to drive out; then a member has to fix the fence. It may be an inconvenience to close and lock the gate when entering or leaving, but it's also an inconvenience to others when they have to take care of the resulting problems. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

SAFETY FIRST

Take a few minutes and refresh yourself with the Gem County Rod and Gun Club Safety Rules. These are a few of the rules that you need to keep in mind when using the range:

***Downrange: No one should be handling an uncased firearm when others are downrange of them.

***180 Rule: Never break the 180 degree rule by pointing your firearm to the side or behind you when at the firing line.

***Loading Safety: Load or re-load your pistol only when on the firing line.

***Earth Berms: No one is to be on the berms, this is an unsafe area.

***Safety Table: Use the safety table when you need to work on your gun, there is to be NO ammunition at the safety table.
